From patients considering thyroid, parathyroid, head and neck, or plastic surgery.
A technique pioneered by Prof. Paolo Miccoli of the University of Pisa, Italy, MIVA uses small incisions and endoscopic video guidance to remove all or part of the thyroid gland. It aims to reduce recovery time, scarring, and post-operative discomfort compared with traditional open thyroidectomy. The practice prioritizes MIVA techniques to improve patient outcomes.
For parathyroid disease and low-volume thyroid disease, the procedures are performed through 1.5 cm to 2.5 cm neck incisions, and the vast majority are performed as outpatient — meaning patients go home the same day.
Adult Complex Thyroid/Parathyroid Surgery (ACTPS) Focused Practice Designation is a certification jointly issued by the American Board of Surgery and the American Board of Otolaryngology, Head and Neck Surgery. It recognizes endocrine surgeons who perform a high volume of complex cases and meet rigorous standards for outcomes, professional standing, and a certifying examination.
Yes. The practice accepts all local insurance plans, including Medicare, Medicaid, and all local HMO plans. HMOs will require authorization and referrals from your primary care office. For out-of-the-area plans, a single-case agreement can be obtained for a specialized service.
The practice welcomes second opinion consultations. Call or text (507) 398-2753, or use the contact form. Please have any prior imaging, pathology reports, and operative notes available so Dr. Senchenkov can review your case thoroughly.
Whether you are seeking a new diagnosis, a second opinion, or coordinated surgical care, the practice is accepting new patients.
Distinguished by advanced surgical expertise and dedication to minimally invasive techniques. Over 20 years of experience, advanced fellowship training under Dr. David Steward of the University of Cincinnati, and dual board certification with the ACTPS Focused Practice Designation.
Dr. Senchenkov's thyroid and parathyroid services encompass a range of diagnostic and surgical procedures tailored to address various conditions and ensure optimal patient outcomes. His approach prioritizes minimally invasive video-assisted (MIVA) surgical techniques, aiming to reduce recovery time and improve outcomes. For parathyroid and low-volume thyroid disease, the procedures are performed through 1.5 cm to 2.5 cm neck incisions, and most operations are performed as outpatient.
Thyroid disease has been observed and depicted for centuries, long before its mechanism was understood. The drawings of Leonardo da Vinci and the goiters painted by Italian Renaissance masters reflect a clinical tradition that today's endocrine surgery extends with new tools: high-resolution ultrasound, intraoperative nerve monitoring, video-assisted endoscopic visualization, and parathyroid hormone assays performed in the operating room.
Italian Renaissance painters frequently depicted enlarged thyroid glands in their portraits — visual evidence of the iodine-deficient inland regions where they worked. These works document a medical reality long before its endocrine basis was discovered, reminding us that thyroid disease has always been a part of human experience.
Minimally invasive video-assisted thyroidectomy (MIVA) uses small incisions and endoscopic visualization to remove all or part of the thyroid gland. The technique reduces scarring, post-operative discomfort, and recovery time compared with traditional open thyroidectomy. Dr. Senchenkov has trained under Dr. David Steward, one of the nation's leading thyroid and parathyroid surgeons, in the application of MIVA techniques.

A full range of reconstructive and aesthetic procedures, performed by a board-certified plastic surgeon with fellowship training in reconstructive microsurgery.
Dr. Senchenkov was educated and trained at the leading microsurgery institutions, including the University of Pittsburgh, University of Cincinnati, and Mayo Clinic, Rochester, MN. He has individual experience of over 700 microvascular flaps and replantations across the full range of microsurgical complexity. He previously served as a leading microsurgeon, program director, and Associate Professor of Plastic Surgery and Otolaryngology at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center.
Reconstructive procedures range from straightforward closures to microvascular free tissue transfer. Each plan is built around the patient's anatomy, oncologic situation, prior treatments, and goals.
We employ all breast reconstructive options following mastectomy, including state-of-the-art DIEP and other microvascular (free) flaps, with the goal of restoring natural appearance and confidence. Male chest reconstruction is also offered.
All types of reconstructive procedures based on indication and patient preference: functional endoscopic forehead lifts with upper blepharoplasty for visual field impairment, functional nasal surgery for congenital and acquired (post-traumatic) nasal obstruction, facial and nasal reconstruction of Mohs defects, and correction of deformities.

We work with all local Mohs Dermatology practitioners and accept all local insurance plans.
We provide surgical care collaborating with a team of cancer care professionals — Mohs specialists, dermatologists, radiologists, radiation and medical oncologists, and rehabilitation specialists — with the goal of achieving the best possible outcomes while prioritizing patient safety and comfort.
Margin-negative resection is the mainstay of treatment of solid tumors. This is achieved by Mohs excision technique for tumors with appropriate histology and location, or surgical excision with margin width defined by care standards and anatomic feasibility. Tumors with propensity to spread to lymph nodes require stage-appropriate management — sentinel node biopsies or formal lymph node dissections (parotidectomies, neck, axillary, and groin dissections).
Skin and soft tissue defects from tumor removal require reconstruction dictated by patient health, characteristics of the defect, and the need for additional oncologic treatments (e.g., radiation therapy). Reconstructive efforts may range from direct closure to microsurgical free flap reconstruction to ensure timely healing, tolerance of radiation, and optimal cosmetic and functional results.
Whenever possible, we utilize minimally invasive techniques and sound reconstructive principles to minimize scarring and recovery time.
For a new diagnosis, a second opinion, or coordinated oncologic care, the practice is accepting new patients.
